Alligator Farm St. Augustine
The St. Augustine Alligator Farm & Bird Sanctuary is located on Anastasia Island, less than a mile from the State Park and very close to the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

Opened in 1893, the Alligator Farm St. Augustine was originally located at the terminus of a railway running to Anastasia Island. Two men began collecting alligators they found in the area to attract tourists to their gift shop and museum. By the 1920s, the alligators were the main attraction. Today, the park is not only one of St. Augustine’s favorite attractions; it is a symbol of old Florida and its astounding growth due to tourism brought in by the railroad and Henry Flagler in the early 1900s. Featuring over 20 species of crocodilians, a variety of reptiles, mammals and birds, exhibits, animal performances and educational demonstrations, the St Augustine Alligator Farm is a must see during your Vacation in St Augustine FL.

Komodo Dragon Exhibit is the newest exhibit and was the largest expansion in the park’s 115 year history. The Komodo Dragon Exhibit features birds and reptiles including the world’s most dangerous bird, the Double-wattled Cassowary. Other park highlights include Maximo, a 1,250 pound Saltwater Crocodile. While Maximo takes the title of the park’s largest animal, Gomek, an 18 foot long, 2,000 pound crocodile, is the largest crocodile ever on display. At the Wading Bird Rookery exhibit, you will find egrets, ibis, spoonbills, wood storks, and tri-colored herons that nest near or above the gator ponds at the alligator farm. Breeding usually peaks April through July, so try to plan your trip accordingly if you are interested in observing breeding behavior. Birds of Africa is another unique exhibit, offering a rare glimpse of some of Africa’s largest bird carrion eaters. Wander the extensive network of walkways in the St Augustine Alligator Farm and watch the daily feeding demonstration of the scavenger cape griffon vultures and other carrion eaters.

There are hundreds of other species at the Alligator Farm St. Augustine including Australian kookaburras, pygmy marmosets (the world’s smallest monkey), albino alligators and toucans.
